Why do we do things this way?

In business.
In music.
In life.
So much of modern work and creativity runs on default settings. Growth for growth’s sake. Visibility over value. Productivity as identity. Passion turned into performance. Success measured by metrics nobody ever agreed on.
Break Convention exists to question those assumptions.
Not loudly. Not aggressively. Just honestly.
This isn’t a newsletter about hacks, optimisation, or personal branding. There are no frameworks to download and no promises to “change your life in 30 days”.
Instead, you’ll find:
essays about work, creativity, money and meaning
questions we tend to avoid asking
field notes from real experiences, conversations and moments of doubt
observations from business, music and everyday life that don’t fit neatly into categories
Some posts will be long. Some will be short.
All of them will start from lived experience rather than theory.
Break Convention is for people who feel slightly out of step with how success is supposed to look.
For those who’ve followed the rules, questioned them quietly, and are now deciding which ones still matter.
You don’t need to agree with everything here.
You just need to be curious enough to question the defaults.
If that sounds like you, you’re in the right place.
